We would love to be able to accommodate everyone who reaches out to us for help. Unfortunately, ABA services are in extremely high demand. This is particularly true in the afternoons and evenings due to conflicts with school schedules. Scheduling is one of the most challenging aspects of running an ABA company, as we try to accommodate as many people as possible. As a result, we may not be able to assist individuals whose schedules do not match up with our staff availability. We understand this can be frustrating, so here are some tips that may assist in the process.
Available vs Optimal Time of Day When providing SVABA with your availability, please provide us with all of the hours your learner will be available for ABA services. Please keep in mind that a legal adult must be present at all times during the availability provided. It may be tempting to only provide us with the ideal times of day for the convenience of the family. Though we encourage you to let us know the optimal times and we will certainly make efforts to accommodate you, please also provide all of the available times to increase the chances we will be able to serve your family.
Vacations and Extended Leaves If you plan to take a vacation or otherwise plan to cease services for a time extending longer than 2 weeks, inform SVABA immediately. Extended time spent away from services can impact progress dramatically, and may result in changes to the team and other accommodations that will need to be made. It is important that SVABA be informed of when these leaves will occur and how long they will extend as soon as possible.
Schedule Changes If you anticipate that your availability may change within the next 6 months, please inform SVABA immediately, even if you are unsure exactly how the availability will change. For example, if your child is 4 years old and fully available but will be starting Kindergarten within the next 6 months, inform SVABA of this fact.
Impacted Schedules, Parent Training, and Caregiver-Led Therapy If your availability does not match with our staff availability, or if you simply do not have a lot of free time in your schedule, there are alternatives to discuss with SVABA. For example, if a full ABA program is not possible due to your schedule or our staff limitations, there are other things we can do. It is possible, and often very effective, to have a clinician work with you to train you, other family members, nannies, daycare workers, or anyone else. As long as the individuals are willing to listen, learn, and practice implementing behavior analytic methods within daily life, we are more than happy to help. Incredible and rapid changes can occur when caregivers are educated in behavioral principles and bring these lessons into daily life.
